Hollywood celebrities are doing it. Corporate moguls are doing it. But what about those of us living in the real world—and on a real budget?

Author and holistic health practitioner Victoria Moran started eating only plants nearly thirty years ago, raised her daughter, Adair, vegan from birth,

and maintains a sixty-pound weight loss. In
Main Street Vegan, Moran offers a complete guide to making this dietary and lifestyle shift with an

emphasis on practical "baby steps," proving that you don’t have to have a personal chef or lifestyle coach on speed dial to experience the physical

and spiritual benefits of being a vegan. This book provides practical advice and inspiration for everyone—from Main Street to Wall Street, and

everywhere between.

"Finally, a book that isn't preaching to the vegan choir, but to the people in the pews—and the ones who can’t fit in those pews. This is a book for the Main Street majority who aren’t vegans. Once you read this, you'll know it's possible to get healthy and enjoy doing it—even if you live in Paramus or Peoria."—

I’ve written for publication since I was a teenager—teen mags first, then health food store and vegetarian publications, and spiritual journals. I’ve written 13 books about well-being, spirituality, and Vegan living. My proposed 14th, Age Like a Yogi, is in the beginning stages (prayers ongoing for the perfect publisher). VegNews magazine listed me among the Top 10 Living Vegetarian Authors, and I was on Oprah twice which, at that time, was like being initiated as a genuine writer.

Ugh, well...
4 Stars
Ugh, well...
I gave it 4 stars. I'm half way through and what made me slow down was the under researched "milk takes away from your bones" argument. I'm not sure if that's entirely the truth, but I shall continue to read when I can. I love the recipes at the end of each chapter. It's a wonderful treat to someone's experiences and explanations.

"Vegans are cool and plant-based dining is hot."

If you're only going to read one book this year - pick up Main Street Vegan. It will change your life. It is so much more than a book about being a vegan, it is a book about being a compassionate healthy person - the very best you can be. I actually cried reading this book. I almost never do it, and for a non-fiction book to affect me that way. I am so inspired by Victoria Moran and I will definitively pick up her back list.

"Much of Main Street Vegan is light reading and light of heart, about great food, looking good, and feeling fantastic; but parts of it may be tough going, especially if you're reading for the first time about what the animals go though."

This book cover everything from the animals, the ethics, the compassion, the love, the food, the clothes, the honey, the circus, the make-up, the wine, the kids and includes a lot of delicious recipes. I read this because I was curious about going vegan - now I am sure that I'm ready for the transition. It covers everything I worry about: going to restaurants, travel abroad and dealing with non-supportive surroundings. The main message is that everything you do is great - even if it is to start with meatless Monday.

"The idea is to do this, either all at once or in stages, in a way that's comfortable and fun, improves your health, makes sense in your actual life, and lasts forever."

The book is written for new vegans, but I imagine that I will go back to this wonderful book many times and I am sure it is a great inspiration, reminder and boost also for long time vegans. There are so many amazing parts - I am glad I got the kindle edition so I could make (a lot) of highlights! However, I am off to buying the hardcover edition as well - I must have it on my book shelves as well. I cannot emphasize enough how much I loved this book. I want to give it to everyone I know but I will take Victoria's advice and don't push it onto people. I would recommend it to everyone, except maybe if you absolutely want to be able to eat you meaty junk food without thinking about it.

5++ stars!

"The bottom line is: This is not difficult; it is just new. New and wonderful."

This is a great book. I wasn't a vegan when I started reading though I had stopped eating meat and was very curious about veganism. I am not even half way through the book and I have been a vegan now for 2 weeks and never intend on going back to meat or animal products. I love how the author talked about this controversial and sensitive subject. I am an animal lover, grew up with horses and dogs. I have a rescued dog so I care alot about animals and the way they are treated. I wish I had known some of this information long ago I would've never continued to put animal products into my mouth all these years. I feel horrible that I did. Veganism isn't ever talked about and is tip toed around as if it is not right or vegans are extremists. I don't believe that is true at all. Animals are here with us not for us and are treated as disposable beings here to feed us, clothe us and nourish us. It is disgusting and veganism has changed the way I grocery shop, clothing shop and see the world.

I also love the recipes at the end of each chapter. I haven't tried any yet but I intend to once I finish the book. This book is super informative about how to switch to a vegan diet and get all your vitamins and nutrients so your not sitting around starving wondering what to eat. There is a whole new world out there being a vegan. I love every second of being vegan and this book is an absolute must have for anyone thinking of going vegan or is curious about it.

Victoria Moran's writing style is upbeat and positive. This is not a book to shame anyone into becoming vegan, and that's part of what's so fabulous about it. From start to finish, she takes you through your vegan transition, encouraging you and reassuring you along the way. What's great is she reaffirms that you can start small, such as cutting out red meat, then chicken, etc., or you can dive right in. Whatever works for you! I love how she reassures you that this is not something that happens overnight and that you can slowly transition through your diet, then on to other aspects of your life (which she details in later chapters). This book is also chock full of information and resources, making it a lot less scary to become vegan (not scary at all!).

Pros: upbeat, positive, great for non-vegans on the fence, and also great for vegetarians and new vegans.

Cons: I'd say the only con of this book is that it's probably not for long time vegans, unless you're looking for positive upbeat reassurance and up-to-date resources.

5.0 out of 5 stars a seasoned perspective

I'm a long time vegetarian / vegan and yet found much to enjoy in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the way that Victoria presented the information in short chapters covering key dimensions of the vegan diet. I thought that the idea of including a recipe that supported the topic of each chapter brilliant. Her approach is light, yet the perspective is very seasoned and thorough.... a sign of a master of her subject.

An amazing book for anyone who is aspiring to become a vegan or simply just courius about the world we live in. It's not crazy overload with facts and figures. Very easy to read. Full of different recipes for those who would think "vegan diet = boring salads". In this book the Author shows us that it's not that difficult to make "a first step" and you definitely won't turn into a freak!:) In my opinion it's "a must-read book no.1" for anyone who like me woke up one day and thought: hang on, what it is i'm actually eating".
