In the two or so years it took me to write A Death at the Party, the world was all but locked up in a pandemic. I needed to conjure up a party setting, but I couldn’t leave my house! So, I turned to fiction. I spent a lot of time reading novels centered around parties, studying how my fellow writers handled the intricacies and logistics that come with throwing groups of characters together on the page. Here are some of my most beloved books with a party or two in the mix.

With an interior perspective, the story travels forward and back in time and in and out of the characters' minds to construct an image of Clarissa's life and of the inter-war social structure.
In October 2005, Mrs. Dalloway was included on Time's list of the 100 best English-language novels written since Time debuted in 1923.
