Why read it?

22 authors picked Atomic Habits as one of their favorite books. Why do they recommend it?

This book is not a book that covers porn addiction, but it is a great book for understanding and creating new habits. This will be of great value to you if you want to stop watching porn.

I got a lot of value from reading this book; it is one of the books that can improve your life, no matter your situation.

From Havard's list on porn addiction.

If you want to see how small changes can make a huge impact, pick up this book.

Atomic Habits explores the power of compounding in personal development. Unlike the temptation of quick fixes, the book emphasizes the long game. It redefines habits as the key to success and failure, highlighting that time maximizes their impact. Even the smallest changes can accumulate into significant transformations.

This book is an eye-opening exploration of how small, consistent actions can lead to extraordinary outcomes.

From Shane's list on thinking better.

Atomic Habits fell into my hands sometime in February. At the time, I was in a bit of a writing slump, and my daily habits were an absolute mess. Normally, I am highly suspicious of self-help books, especially anything that promotes quick and easy solutions.

I dare say Atomic Habits exceeded my expectations. Not only did it succeed in getting me out of my writing slump, but it also helped me create new and more powerful habits.

The book’s practical advice is interlaced with lots of productivity strategies, as well as some psychological root causes for procrastination.

My main takeaways…

Atomic Habits is a reminder that small and incremental improvements add up to massive successes.

I love how James Clear offers practical examples and suggestions which allow you to put everything you are learning into practice right away. One of the biggest learnings for me was the difference between focusing on goals and focusing on systems. You can set yourself many goals but without the systems in place to support you, you cannot achieve them.

So much of this book resonated with what we know from neuroscience and how our brains like to operate. I recommend this book to everyone…

From Stephanie's list on making every day a great day at work.

Many people have read this book, and recommending it here may seem like “the easy thing to do.” However, it’s that good.

James Clear provides real, actionable methods for changing negative patterns of behavior and creating new, better ones. The underlying concepts of this book dovetail nicely with another I love, Mindsight, by Daniel Siegel. Seigel’s book explains neurology in the way we form patterns of behavior (and the underlying causes of many mental disorders).

Atomic Habits is written in a way that makes it much easier for the reader with step-by-step strategies. Who might benefit from a…

When we boil it down to its essence, eating and exercise are habits.

This book is a powerful piece of self-help literature that helped me think about behavior change in a new way.  It's fine and good to dream about having a healthy lifestyle, but for most of us it is hard to move from conception to planning and execution.

This book really teaches you how to build habits into your life: changes that seem small and unimportant on any given day will compound into remarkable results if we are willing to stick with them for months and years.

Has life hit you in the face like a baseball bat? That literally happened to James Clear. From the steps he took to make his successful emergence as a thought leader and motivator, he guides us to understand four “laws” that will help build new habits and eliminate practices that hold us back.

Set your environment to succeed, e.g. Hide potato chips and display that apple instead. The habit you want needs to be irresistible. Polish that apple. Take the work out of doing the right thing.  Make sure doing your chosen activity feels good.

Dr. Clear has devised practical…

This is a transformative book emphasizing the power of small, consistent actions in achieving remarkable results.

Clear highlights that the key to lasting change lies in focusing on systems rather than goals, and shares practical strategies for habit formation. By employing the concepts of habit stacking, environment design, and tracking habits, individuals can make incremental improvements that compound over time, leading to personal and professional growth.

Easily one of my favourite self-help books… In Atomic Habits, James Clear provides a practical, easy-to-follow system for building good habits and breaking bad ones.

Unlike other books in its genre, this one gets straight to the point and doesn't overwhelm the reader with the usual impractical tips or filler chapters.

This book helped me create better habits and stick to them… and it has the potential to change the way you live your life. Highly recommended for anyone looking to improve their habits and systems.

This book is irreplaceable, and would be on my all-time favorite books ever written.

The reframe about how to change a habit and the idea that every action is a vote for the kind of person we want to be, strikes me every time I read it!

The approach of changing not only the types of goals I set for myself, but the very approach I take in order to make changes, is so outside any belief system I have had previous to reading this.

It’s not often a book turns my beliefs on their head, but this one opened…
